With a brief to contemporize a generous family home in Sydney’s North Shore while rationalizing the number of ill-considered additions that had crept into the building over the years, Briony Fitzgerald Interior Design (BFID) set about the challenges of making the most of the water views and unifying the garden, terrace and living spaces.

The movement between the inside and outside was important to the client, as was space for entertaining. Undercover dining and sun protection were key as the deck faces west and it had to be comfortable and luxurious for long lunches.

They chose timber decking for the outside areas so the flow from the internal floors to the external spaces was visually seamless.

BFID touched something in every room - from details such as changing tiles on the fireplace to a custom designed front door with a round stone handle – to major interventions such as extensive curved joinery and banquette seating.
